All of us at Canada Wild Productions are extremely proud to announce that Van Royko has won the Robert Brooks award for Best Documentary Cinematography for 2016 for his extraordinary work on our feature documentary, “KONELĪNE: our land beautiful.”

It was jaw dropping to watch Van hang off cliffs and skid down glaciers and not just get the shot—but capture the poetry of it all. It was also a great pleasure to make images with him every step of the way.

And get this — two out of the three nominees in the documentary category for this Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC) award were shot by Van (KONELĪNE as well as INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM)

If that was not enough, Van won the same award last year for his work on Sturla Gunnarsson’s MONSOON.

We are all looking forward to reconvening at Hot Docs where Van will be screening KONELĪNE for the first time. We have been holding off showing the finished film to Van until he can experience it on the big screen with big sound— and see what kind of magic editor Michael Brockington has worked on his images.

A great big thanks to Van and the entire camera crew for making KONELĪNE: our land beautiful” true to its name.
